Panchali Sheth is a Sydney-based contemporary artist. Her layered and textured paintings draw upon her Indian heritage and experiences of straddling both Eastern and Western cultures. She attempts to merge the structural niceties of the human body found within Western traditional art history with the ornate and mystical tendencies commonly embedded within Indian art history. Panchali’s technique is primal and impulsive. She sees painting as not just a medium but also a malleable instrument, which allows her to express beliefs and forms that are trapped within her mind.
“There’s always a point where a sudden familiarity arises; this is followed by an emergence of an unintentional form.”
